  • Letter to Parents from Deputy Headteacher - Illnesses preventing school attendance

    Mon 02 Dec 2019 HHPS

    Dear Parents / Carers,

Today we have had an increased number of children who are away from school due to symptoms of sickness and diarrhoea. We have contacted the School Nursing Team to advise us on how to support our families to reduce the risk of our children becoming ill. Incidents of such illnesses can spread easily from person to person, and can increase during the colder months of the year.

The following recommendations are to reduce the risk of illness, and we kindly ask that you carry these actions out, to prevent further exposure for your child/ren and family.

    • Make sure that children are frequently washing their hands, especially after toileting and before eating or preparing food. Hands should be washed with warm water and soap for a minimum of 20 seconds (including thumbs).
    • Good hygiene is the best way to prevent transmission of any sickness bug. Thoroughly clean and disinfect contaminated surface immediately after an episode of diarrhoea or vomiting.
    • Please note that any child should remain home 48 hours after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea.
    • Please contact school on the first day of absence and every day after before 9am to confirm your child has sickness and diarrhoea.

In school we will continue to make sure that we remind children to wash their hands thoroughly after toileting and before eating food, using soap. As an extra precaution, we are purchasing alcohol-free hand sanitiser in order to help children when they are likely to be in contact with food.

We will also continue to make sure that toileting facilities are equipped with suitable washing products.

If you feel that you child is too unwell for school, please can contact your own GP if you feel your child needs to be seen by a doctor, or call 101 for further advice and guidance.

      Yours faithfully,
      Ms. L Coghlan
      Deputy Head Teacher
