Poster Activity

Create a poster showing ways to stay cool in the hot weather.

Email your fantastic designs to:

y6teachers@hodgehill.createpartnership.org.uk

You might see your poster on Twitter!

Transition activity a

Make a list of personal challenges that you might face in Year 7 and how you will plan to overcome each of them.

e.g.

Challenge 1) Being responsible for providing own stationary.

Overcome by: checking school bag each night. Buying extra pens and pencils in case you lose one.

Transition activity b

Watch a short video about transition to secondary school.

Talk to a trusted adult about any concerns you have about moving to a new school.

Remember, any concern you have is not silly and will be shared by lots of other children.

Compare the UK climate to that of another country.

This will require you to research (probably using the internet – something you’ll be expected to do a lot in Year 7).

Choose another country (maybe much hotter than the UK or much colder).

Information to find out:

  • Average monthly temperatures for each country (can you plot these on a graph). You may even be able to find information about the temperatures in key cities as well.
  • Maximum and minimum temperatures ever recorded.
  • Annual rainfall
  • How countries have adapted to their climate (e.g. flood defences, insulation, air conditioning etc.)

Design your own summer drink

Can you come up with a recipe for a refreshing drink to make on a hot day?

If you’re lucky enough to have the ingredients, have a go at making your drink and get your family to evaluate it.

Record your recipes, pictures and evaluations and email them to:

Design and label a healthy plate or picnic.

Think about the different food groups and what we need for a balanced diet.
