WRITING (to entertain and to persuade)
Prior Knowledge: commas in multi-clause sentences; apostrophe for possession and contraction; punctuation for direct speech; fronted adverbial + comma; conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions; pronouns; consistent use of tense; paragraphs; Standard English; joined handwriting
Children will:
· Use the first three or four letters in a word to check its meaning in a dictionary
· Spell correctly some words which are formed by using the letter string ‘ough’ and words with silent letters
· Write fluently and legibly
· Choose the best writing implement to use for a task
· Identify the purpose and audience for writing
· Note and develop initial ideas
· Use relative clauses to add precision and detail
· Use model verbs to indicate possibility
· Indicate parenthesis using brackets, dashes or commas
· Link ideas across paragraphs using adverbials of time, place and manner
