In England a Free School Meal (FSM) is a statutory benefit available to school aged children from families who receive other qualifying benefits and who have been through the relevant registration process.
In England there are two schemes running which help parents/carers with school meals. Details regarding the two schemes are as follows:
Universal Free School Meals - available to all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
Free School Meals - available to eligible pupils in Years 3 -6 ( please see current guidance below )
