Dear Parents and Carers,
Phew what a busy Spring term this has been. I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for welcoming me to Hodge Hill this term and for being so supportive. You have all helped me to settle in at the school and we have had a very successful first term. It’s been lovely meeting lots of Parents and Carers and I am looking forward to meeting more as the Summer term unfolds. The school has achieved a lot in 13 weeks and in particular it has been very pleasing to see so many of our Parents and Carers support us at celebration events, class led worship, workshops, trips and Parents’ evenings.
The term finishes today with pupils from Reception to Year 5 classes being dismissed at 12.15pm. Workshops for our Year 6 pupils are being provided and we look forward to working with our eldest pupils for the afternoon.
School re opens on Monday 29th April 8am for Breakfast Club and usual time for all children.
We would like to say thank to Miss Ali who has been working in our Reception year group this term and wish her every success in the future. At the start of the Summer term we will be welcoming Miss Chatterley who is joining us as our Reception Year Group Leader. I know we are all very excited to be welcoming her to Hodge Hill.
We have been notified that the school will be used as a voting polling station on Thursday 23rd May which means that the half term will finish on Wednesday 22nd May. Friday 24th May has been designated for a staff training day. School will reopen on Monday 3rd June.
Thank you for those who have provided feedback to our current consultation regarding pupils leaving at lunch time every Friday from September. This consultation closes on Monday 29th April and we ask that any further feedback is received by then. For Parents who are unable to collect children at the suggested time due to both working, the school is able to provide a provision subject to criteria being met. More details to follow once the consultation has finished.
The school is quickly becoming an active member of Twitter. To follow us please see @HodgeSchool
Visitors to school had been very respectful towards our children and local residents until the last week. Unfortunately, we have witnessed a number of incidents whereby private residential drive ways have been blocked, double parking which has led to potentially harmful conditions and threatening the safety of our children, parking on yellow lines with one driver deciding to block the school drive on Bromford Road. Details of this particular incident have been forwarded to our local PCSO McCambridge. May we please ask all visitors to our school site to be respectful, courteous and abide by the Highway Code? We have to put the safety of all of our children to the fore front of all we do.
Summer term Assessments
The Summer term is always a very busy term with formal assessments. Our Year 6 pupils in particular have been working very hard for their SAT exams. SATs week starts on Monday 13th May and will see the children taking at least one exam each day of the week. It is really important that all children attend school every day that week.
Finally, we hope all of our children and families have a restful holiday and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 29th April.
Miss C. Lucas
