Why is it important to teach MFL?
Learning a Modern Foreign Language (MFL) supports an understanding of living in a multicultural society, provides an opening to other cultures and fosters curiosity about the wider world. At Hodge Hill, the core language taught is French. This provides the foundation for learning further languages at Secondary School.
What does MFL look like at Hodge Hill?
Lesson planning covers all the components of the National Curriculum Programme of Study. The French Curriculum at Hodge Hill develops children’s interest in learning other languages in a way that is creative, enjoyable and stimulating. We strive to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language.
At Hodge Hill, we aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing which are necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts. Our teaching also supports our drive for excellence in communication and oracy and supports the work we are doing across the curriculum with these skills.
All children in Key Stage 2 access weekly teaching of French which prepares them for KS3.
We are also affiliated with Language Hubs. Find out more about their work here: Our Affiliate Schools - Trent and Tame Language Hub
