Our Creative Curriculum

As a school we have adopted the creative ‘Cornerstones’ curriculum, where the curriculum is taught through half termly topics. All subjects are taught through a cross-curricular approach. Maths is taught in discrete lessons using the National Curriculum objectives as a guide to build medium and short term planning.

For every curriculum topic there are four stages to the learning journey:

  1. Engage- where the children are given memorable experiences and generate ideas and questions for future possibilities in their learning.
  2. Develop- children delve more deeply into the topic; acquiring new knowledge, whilst practising and mastering their skills.
  3. Innovate- children learn to apply skills, knowledge and understanding to real-life and imaginary contexts. They are given opportunities to show enterprise in solving problems and resolving situations.
  4. Express- Children evaluate finished products, processes and progress. They link what they have learnt to starting points and initial observations. Achievements are celebrated.

The children’s learning is recorded in a class learning journey book as well as individual exercise books.

We are committed to giving every child the best possible experiences. We arrange visits or invite visitors to provide the children with first hand experiences to increase their life experiences and help put their learning real contexts.

Have a look at what the children will be learning about during their time with us!
