Welcome to 6A!

Autumn Term

We have well and truly settled into Y6 now; we have completed two topics already!

Our first, 'Frozen Kingdom' saw us experimenting in science on the very first day of term! After painting and writing poems all about the Northern Lights,  we learned about Captain Scott and the Titanic and we even held an exhibition for parents. It was an amazing afternoon and a great end to our first topic.

This half term in our Cornerstones topic we have been learning about First World War and the Second World War. On the first day of term we were 'evacuees' and even had to learn about what to do during an air raid. Our English learning involved rewriting the tearjerking novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We held a VE style 'street party' at the end of term to celebrate the end of our topic in true 1940s style!

Important Information

  • Homework (in purple exercise books) is sent home on Thursdays and is due back on Tuesdays. Pupils have to complete one bullet point from the list which they have stuck in their homework books. Each task is linked to their topic.
  • Pupils have spellings each day and a spelling rule to learn each week. They have to bring their spelling list home on Tuesday and write sentences with their spellings in to bring back to school on Thursday.
  • Pupils should be reading their home reading book each evening for ten minutes minimum. They must get their reading record signed by an adult and bring this in each Tuesday to be checked.
  • Pupils have PE on Thursdays and Fridays and must wear full PE kit for this.
